The area provides access to Southern Miss, restaurants, shopping, Downtown Hattiesburg and major healthcare facilities. The Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus also hosts athletics, arts programs and public events.

Midtown housing may include:

• Cottages

• Renovated older homes

• Apartments and condominiums

• Rental or investment properties

Some streets feel primarily residential, while homes closer to Hardy Street or the university may experience more traffic and activity.

What Is It Like to Live in Oak Grove?

Oak Grove is an unincorporated area of Lamar County immediately west of Hattiesburg.

Many Oak Grove properties have Hattiesburg mailing addresses, commonly within ZIP code 39402, even though they are outside the City of Hattiesburg.

Downtown may provide convenient routes to downtown offices, William Carey University, Forrest General Hospital, Petal and eastern Hattiesburg.

Midtown may offer convenient access to Southern Miss, Hardy Street, healthcare facilities, Downtown Hattiesburg and Interstate 59.

Oak Grove may provide convenient access to West Hattiesburg, Highway 98, Sumrall and other Lamar County destinations.

Traffic can increase around Hardy Street, Highway 98, Old Highway 11 and school corridors. Test the actual commute from the property during your normal travel hours.

Do Taxes and Schools Differ?

Yes. Downtown and Midtown properties are generally associated with the City of Hattiesburg and Forrest County, although buyers should verify the individual parcel.

Oak Grove is primarily located in unincorporated Lamar County. This can create differences in:

• Property taxes

• Municipal services

• School assignments

• Utilities

• Zoning

• Subdivision restrictions
